A former California Highway Patrol Officer and an alleged drunk driver are being charged with murder in the deaths of four people in a fiery crash on the 605 Freeway last July.

On Monday, L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said CHP officer Angelo Rodriquez was driving southbound at 130 miles an hour in the carpool lane, without lights or a siren on, when he slammed into the back of a Nissan with four people inside, leaving their car disabled in the carpool lane.

“And [Rodriquez is] sitting there for 3 minutes,” Hochman said.

Minutes later, 27-year-old Iris Samaran sped toward the Nissan.

“And so she's driving at over 110 miles an hour,” he said. “She's above the legal limit for alcohol consumption, and she crashes into the Nissan in the HOV lane, lighting the car on fire. And horribly burning the four innocent victims inside the car.”

Hochman said both the former officer, who was fired, and the drunk driver could face life in prison on the murder charges. The two suspects are set to be in court tomorrow.
