LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Kim Kardashian is officially single, in the legal sense, after a judge finally granted her request to end her marriage to Kanye West.
She’s also dropping his last name from hers and will now just be known as Kim Kardashian, according to TMZ.
Kardashian joined Wednesday’s court hearing via video call, though ex-husband Kanye West, who now legally goes by “Ye,” was absent.
West’s lawyer did not object to Kardashian restoring her single status, but had several conditions to the ruling, including that any right to get reimbursement of money that’s supposed to be divided up will be preserved in case either of them dies, the outlet reported. The judge granted that condition.
The judge rejected two other conditions from West’s lawyer, one of which was that Kardashian would not transfer any assets she had in trust.
The other condition he rejected was that if Kardashian remarries, she would waive the “marital privilege,” which means a new spouse would not have to testify about communications he had with her, according to TMZ.
A source close to West told the news site he also wanted the divorce to be granted. Being legally single works in his favor as well, now that the rapper and fashion mogul seemingly went public with model Chaney Jones, while Kardashian continues her public relationship with comedian Pete Davidson.
Kardashian filed for divorce from West just over a year ago. Since then, West has made numerous public pleas to get his family back and even bought a home across the street from Kardashian’s house.
West also made a series of threats and harassing statements toward Davidson on social media. The posts have since been deleted.
This is Kardashian’s third divorce and West’s first.
