Los Angeles County officials have warned beachgoers to stay away from the coast late Monday afternoon.
Beaches have been closed from San Pedro to Malibu for an indefinite period due to lightning strikes in the area.
As of 4:30 p.m., lifeguards were clearing all county beaches, though there were no immediate reports of injuries. Monday's forecast has called for thunderstorms throughout Southern California.
