The Los Angeles Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the officer who shot and killed a dog last Saturday.
The investigation was prompted by several citizen complaints after the shooting.
“That dog's life was taken, and we want answers,” said one complainant.
LAPD sources told KNX News’ Karen Adams that the officer has also received death threats. There are growing calls for the LAPD to release the body-camera footage.
A separate use-of-force investigation is also underway regarding the shooting.
On Saturday night, officers were responding to a reported call of a “screaming woman.” Marie Marseille told Fox 11 she was watching the Knicks celebrate their win with her two-year-old Golden Bernedoodle, Jameson, when the police arrived.
She said the officers told her to “put the dog away,” and Jameson was wearing the team's jersey when he went outside and approached one of the officers.
“The next thing I know, Jameson is lying on the ground," Marseille told the outlet. "But Jameson wasn’t baring his teeth, he wasn’t growling, he wasn’t aggressive, he wasn’t barking. He was just moving toward the officer."
In a press release, officers said the dog “charged at one of the officers,” which led the officer to shoot the dog.
The Justice for Jameson GoFundMe is nearing $200,000.
