Travelers at Los Angeles International Airport got a special treat this Halloween: a therapy dog costume show.

About 20 dogs from the LAX Pets Unstressing Passengers (PUP) program took part in the annual Howling Halloween Parade on Tuesday. The program aims to make the airport experience a little easier by letting travelers play with certified therapy dogs while waiting for their flights.

“Your flights might be delayed, you might have three kids and they’re all running around because they’re excited,” said Christa Hibbs, who was there with her dog Waffles. “Our purpose is just really to do the best that we can to make the experience at LAX as good as it can be traveling.”

Passengers were smiling as the pups and their handlers prowled through the terminals dressed as nurses, unicorns, and more.

“It’s the smiles on people’s faces. Strangers start talking to each other, and it’s an icebreaker,” said PUP Program Director Heidi Huebner. “We all create these mini-friendships when the pups are here with people, and I love it.”

Huebner and her dog Chance were both dressed as tacos for the occasion.
