Over the weekend, Spirit Airlines shut down suddenly, leaving thousands of employees and travelers to figure out how to get to where they were going.

KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke with travelers at LAX about the shutdown. Baba, who was taking a flight with Frontier, said he thinks the Spirit shutdown is a bad omen for travelers going forward.

“I think them and Frontier providing cheap airfare and travel is massive,” he said. “It's absolutely massive, and Spirit sort of going under really, really affects, I think, everyone widespread.”

Sarah said she hopes that other airlines will pick up the slack

“I have heard that Breeze is the new Spirit,” she said. “So maybe they're going to kind of swoop in and take this opportunity. This could be good. This could be good for them.”

In the meantime, some of the other airlines are offering lower fares to help Spirit travelers who have been stuck. Delta says Spirit employees can fly standby over the next week so that they can get home.
