A 23-year-old woman from Moreno Valley was arrested on Thursday, July 14 on kidnapping charges after she allegedly impersonated a nurse and attempted to take a newborn infant from the Riverside University Health System-Medical Center, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Jesenea Miron was identified by Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station investigators as the suspect, and was located and arrested at the 11000 block of Weber Street in Moreno Valley.

She was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and remains in custody on $1 million bail, according to authorities.

Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies at the hospital were notified of a woman impersonating a nurse at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

"During the course of the investigation, deputies learned a female entered the hospital posing as a newly hired nurse and gained access to a medical unit where newborn infants were present," the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

"The female entered a patient's hospital room and identified herself as a nurse. While inside the patient’s room, she attempted to take their newborn infant. The suspect was confronted by hospital staff, who then notified security. The female fled the location before she was able to be apprehended by hospital security or law enforcement."

The hospital said in a statement that they have "reviewed and reinforced" their security following the incident, according to CBS Los Angeles.

"We appreciate the swift response from the Sheriff's Department. We are working with them to investigate how the suspect accessed the patient's room and interacted with the family," a statement from Riverside University Health System-Medical Center said. "Our security protocols have been reviewed and reinforced, and we have additional sheriff's deputies on campus."

Miron is scheduled to appear before the court on Tuesday.
