On Friday, a new apartment building in Chatsworth became the permanent home to nearly 100 residents, some of whom spent years living on the streets
The Cielo offers modular units with 99 rooms. Stephanie Glasky-Gamer, president and CEO of L.A. Family Housing, told KNX News’ Jon Baird that all rooms are filled.
“When you spend years living outdoors, and you have an opportunity to come inside, people choose to come inside, and so people were thrilled at how beautiful their new home would be here in Chatsworth at the Cielo,” she said.
She also said residents get supportive services.
“As a homeless service provider, we wrap our participants and tenants and residents in the services they need, from mental health care to life skills training, from wellness programs to budgeting and socialization,” she said. “It's a full wraparound set of services for all of the residents living here at the Cielo.”

One of the new tenants, Brenda, said she loved her new apartment.
“I couldn't ask for anything better than this,” she said.
Glasky-Gamer said there are rental subsidies provided by the City of Los Angeles Housing Authority, which allow tenants to pay 30% of their income, regardless of income. Three more modular homes are expected to open in L.A. this year
