Pasadena Unified School District is going to axe nearly 200 jobs.

These layoffs will include teachers in the district and about 50 of the cuts are jobs that won’t be filled. This is part of the effort for the district to become more fiscally stable.

The district’s Board of Education said it’s trying to redesign and reduce the services over the next several years.

The layoffs are due to a drop in enrollment, the end of the one-time COVID funding, and budget deficits.

Opponents of the layoffs said the cuts disproportionately impact the special education programs.
