Palm Springs Pride and city officials offered a preview Monday of a planned Pride monument expected to be installed later this year to honor the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

The Pride Monument Board of the Greater Palm Springs selected city resident Jim Isermann to design the rainbow-colored sculpture that is expected to be unveiled in September. Officials said it is currently being fabricated in Houston, Texas.
It will be installed at Alejo Road and Indian Canyon Drive.
"The goal for now is to have this sculpture completed before this year's International Gay and Lesbians Travel Association," Mayor Ron deHarte told City News Service Monday.
The city will host the International Gay and Lesbians Travel Association convention in October. Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of Pride in Palm Springs.
According to the Palm Springs Pride website, "The sculpture incorporates three long-recognized symbols of gay solidarity: the triangle, the lambda and the rainbow."
Organizers said the monument will serve as a significant civil rights sculpture, it will stand as a beacon of hope and inspiration, a lasting tribute to the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
"This point in time no one would have expected the administration to target so many communities across the country," deHarte said. "This now reinforces the role the LGBTQ+ community have played since the history of Palm Springs and that history cannot be wiped out."
