If you’re planning to drive into or through Yosemite National Park, be ready to make a reservation.

Park officials said reservations would be required on some days from April 13 through October 27.

For those planning to drive into or through the park from April 13 through June 30, a reservation is required from 5 am to 4 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

From July 1 through August 16, reservations will be required every day from 5 am to 4 pm.

From August 17 through October 27, reservation is required from 5 am to 4 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays

Ranger Scott Gediman told CBS News’ Megan Goldsby that reservations are to prevent overcrowding.

“We saw long lines at entrance stations, sometimes three to four hours long,” he said. “There were traffic jams, people couldn't find parking spaces, crowded hiking trails. So people just weren't getting the experience that we would like them to.”
