Esparza was shot and killed July 5, 2016, while visiting family friends in the 300 block of West Figueroa Drive.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office later found out the gunman walked up to the home, fired shots that struck the 4-year-old and a 27-year-old, Fox 11 reported.

Deputies believe the target was the 27-year-old man who officials say was a gang member, according to the Los Angeles Times. The man had been involved in an altercation down the street, which led officials to believe was the motivation behind the shooting.

The suspect took off in dark colored sedan.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact sheriff's Sgt. Domenick Recchia at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be given to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
