On Sept. 9 around 5 p.m., Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies searched the home of 35-year-old Andrew Duran on Rory Lane. The department’s Gun Violence Reduction Program had investigated Duran prior to the search warrant, where they learned Duran was using a 3D printer to “manufacture and distribute firearms and firearm components intended to turn semi-automatic handguns into fully automatic machine guns.”

It was also revealed Duran had a criminal history that banned him from owning and possessing firearms.

“As a result of the search warrant, detectives located and seized multiple 3D printed firearms, firearm components which were intended to turn semi-automatic handguns into fully automatic machine guns and an amount of methamphetamine which was possessed for the purposes of sales,” the department said.

Deputies also found a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen from a residence in Thousand Oaks.

Duran was booked on various firearm and narcotic offenses. Deputies said he was released on $50,000 bail.
