Thousands of people in Orange County are currently without power because of a Southern California Edison outage. Edison has crews on the scene but has not yet determined the cause of the outage, according to a company spokesperson.

Edison spokesperson Ben Gallagher said the number of customers without power has decreased, but many residents are still waiting for their power to return.

The outages are “currently affecting the Anaheim and Cypress communities. The initial number of customers affected was 18,000. As of now, the number of customers affected is at 14,492,” Gallagher said.

The utility's latest estimate for restoring power was noon today. However, Edison's outage map was still reporting over 6,500 affected customers in Cyprus at close to 1 p.m.

Witnesses in the area said the outage was triggered by two power transformers exploding at an Edison plant in Cypress.

Local resident Tim Keenan shared on social media that almost every stoplight in Cyprus and Buena Park was not working on his drive to work Monday morning.

Some customers reported their power returned around 7 a.m. this morning, but others are still waiting for an update.
