Another award for Steph Curry.

Following another championship season with the Warriors, the beloved Bay Area icon was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year on Tuesday morning. Curry and the Warriors will celebrate the award on Thursday, as coach Steve Kerr and fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson will be on hand for a gala at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.

Curry led the Warriors to their fourth title in eight seasons this past June, when his Herculean effort against the Boston Celtics lifted Golden State to the championship in six games. Curry’s Game 4 effort, when he dropped 43 points, will be remembered forever in NBA history. He also secured his first-ever Finals MVP award to silence any doubters who were trying to poke holes in his Hall of Fame resume.

Despite Monday’s off night in a 112-104 loss to the Indiana Pacers, Curry is off to one of the best starts to a season in his career in 2022-23. He is averaging 30 points, 7.0 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 5.1 3-pointers per game, while shooting 49.9 percent from the floor, 43.2 percent from distance and 90.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Beyond the bling and the rings, Curry is renowned for his charitable efforts, highlighted by his Eat.Learn.Play Foundation which he leads with his wife, Ayesha, which provides food, education and exercise opportunities for underprivileged youth in Oakland and the Bay Area at large. Curry’s Underrated Golf Tour has also been applauded for making golf more accessible to minorities, while he has also been an outspoken champion and advocate for growing women’s sports. Beyond that, his patented "Night Night" celebration was mimicked by athletes around the globe.

Curry marks the first player in franchise history to win the award, which has been handed out since 1954, though the entire 2018 Warriors team was recognized as Sportsperson of the Year by the publication after Curry, Kevin Durant and the squad won their second consecutive NBA title.
