Motorists were being advised Thursday to avoid a stretch of Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills while crews work to repair a leaking gas line valve.
The gas leak was discovered around 2 p.m. Wednesday in a valve connected to a 3-inch medium-pressure gas main, according to Southern California Gas Co. The line is along Sunset Boulevard in the area between Foothill Road and Alpine Drive.

Repair crews were able to halt the leak as of about 10 a.m. Thursday, but work was continuing to repair the valve.
Due to the work, all westbound lanes of Sunset were closed between Foothill and Alpine, and only one eastbound lane was open.
Although the leak has stopped, SoCalGas officials said residents in the area may smell a natural gas odor while repairs are being made.
Natural gas service was interrupted for only one customer, according to the utility.
