Video of Draymond Green punching Jordan Poole during Wednesday’s practice took the NBA world by storm on Friday morning.
Atlanta Hawks superstar Trae Young weighed in with a tweet that raised a lot of people’s eyebrows, as he joked Draymond is working toward a move to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Trae sent out the tweet less than an hour after the video surfaced on Twitter and quickly went viral.
While Young’s tweet was tongue-in-cheek, he said out loud what some people have been thinking.
The front office knows it's headed toward a collision course of salaries for the 2023-24 season, as Draymond can accept a $27.9 million player option. Jordan Poole could be headed playing on his first year of his rookie extension, if his reps can come to an agreement with the Warriors by Oct. 17 or they reach one next year. His salary could be in the $30 million range after Tyler Herro's four-year, $120 million deal with an additional $10 million in incentives.
Warriors president of basketball operations/general manager Bob Myers told reporters Thursday that this situation should have no bearing on the negotiations for either player.
“I don’t think this was related to who’s getting paid, who isn’t,” Myers said. “I don’t sense that.”
Given his close ties to LeBron James and their powerful shared agency, Klutch Sports, NBA Twitter has been connecting the dots between Draymond and the Lakers for some time now. Heck, on Friday morning, Draymond published a 50-minute podcast interview with Patrick Beverley without adding any additional commentary on the Poole situation, hours after the video surfaced.
Trae was only joking, but it’s funny to see another player comment on the situation so bluntly.
