It hasn’t been done in over a decade, but the USDA has now updated what it calls the “plant hardiness” map for the first time since 2013.

(That’s “hardiness” as in “hearty,” for if you want to grow strong, resilient plants. Not “hardness” as in how to grow plants that make your life difficult.)

As the climate continues to change, the winters are getting warmer in the U.S., with some cities’ lowest temperatures as much as 10 degrees higher than they were in 2012.

The interactive map simply requires you put in your location to get information on which plants are best for your region under current yearwide climate conditions.

One caveat: The map does not show extreme cold temperatures, only the average cold temperature in an area.

Likewise, the map also doesn’t make any predictions about plants surviving the heat of summer in your region.
