SAN FRANCISCO — In the midst of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline chaos, the Warriors dropped a stealth nugget about Steph Curry.
The Warriors superstar, who is recovering from a leg injury he suffered last week against the Dallas Mavericks, will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break, according to the update.
Steph could be seen getting a leg workout on Friday afternoon without a brace at the team facility.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr also offered a brief update on Curry’s rehab progress, saying he’s been working out a lot on an exercise bike.
“He’s getting some conditioning stuff as much as he can, but also staying off of his feet,” Kerr said. “Biking seems to be the choice right now, but he’s a ways off.”
The NBA’s midseason showcase will be held on Feb. 19 in Salt Lake City, and the Warriors’ first game after the break will be on Feb. 23, but Curry isn’t expected back until at least March. When Curry does return, he’ll have a familiar face to share the floor with, as Gary Payton II has been reacquired in a deadline deal.
Kerr couldn’t directly discuss the unfinalized four-team trade that landed Payton as of Friday afternoon, but implied that GP2 could be in some starting lineups while Steph is out.
“We gotta wait and see how everything plays out with our roster,” Kerr said. “We’ve already changed starting lineups a couple times Steph went out. That may continue based on matchups. We just gotta keep pushing forward with whatever we think is the best way to win that night. We could play bigger, we could play smaller. We’ll see.”
