It was a rough night for one recent “Wheel of Fortune” contestant.
Shauna Williams had successfully solved the category “Same Letter” during the Jan. 3 episode of the hit game show, revealing the correct answer of “congenial company & clever conversation.”
However, she was not allowed her earnings by host Pat Sajak because she mispronounced the word “congenial” when saying the puzzle out loud, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Uh, no,” Sajak replied to Williams. The puzzle was then passed to the next contestant, who answered correctly.
Viewers of “Wheel of Fortune” took their disbelief to social media after Williams didn’t close the round.
“No way this lady lost ‘Wheel of Fortune’ with the entire puzzle solved,” one user wrote on Twitter with a number of cry laughing emojis attached.
Another fan commended Willams, writing, “Shauna was congenial in defeat!”
Last year, host Pat Sajak announced he would be retiring from the show after 40 years at the helm. Ryan Seacrest will take over after Sajak’s departure. The hand-off by all accounts has been congenial.
