A viral TikTok video showing a Costco return has sparked quite an online debate.

Jackie Nguyen posted a video in which she returned a couch to Costco two and a half years after buying it.

The video, which has 2.8 million views, showed the couch being tied to the bed of a truck before being loaded onto a cart outside the store.

Nguyen did not film the entire return process but did explain what happened.

She said that while she didn’t have the receipt, she knew the date because she had taken a photo of it on the day it was purchased. She added that the employee looked it up on the computer and found the order. Nguyen said she and her husband were given a full refund.

“It is very intimidating going in there with a big giant purchase and you're returning it. So it's like very intimidating,” Nguyen said in the video. “There's a lot of people staring at you, but who cares? Return it! They have an awesome return policy.”

On Costco’s website it reads, “We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell, and will refund your purchase price.” There is a note that says “limitations apply.” There also certain items have a return window of 90 days. Those items include cell phones, televisions, computers, cameras, camcorders, projectors, and touch screen tablets among other items.

Despite the policy, not everyone was thrilled with what Nguyen did.

Although the comments on the video have been turned off, some people posted their reactions to the story on their TikTok accounts.

One of the critics was a Tiktok user by the name voiage_beauty, whose response racked up 1.7 million views.

"You used something and you loved it with your kids and your animals and your whole family, and you used it for two-and-a-half years, and just because there's a little loophole in this store's policy, you think that it is morally right to take that couch back and get a full, full refund for it?” she asked. “ For a used item that there was nothing wrong with?”

Some people in the comments agreed with the woman.

“I work for Costco. Don’t get me started,” one user wrote.

“That is the EXACT reason why companies change their return / refund policies and become soooo strict that makes it difficult later,” another user said.

Some users, however, did defend Nguyen.

“MY husband works for Costco and says that the Co. receives money from all of the returned items. I am not ashamed to return my items,” one user wrote.

“I think [sic] its wrong they charge me an annual fee to spend my own money at their store. So [sic] i dont find it wrong,” another user wrote.

Nguyen commented on the video, writing, “I think its wrong they charge me an annual fee to spend my own money at their store. So i don’t [sic]  find it wrong.”
