The battle of the billionaires appears to be crumbling as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared on his social media site Threads on Sunday night that his rival, X CEO Elon Musk, isn’t serious about the bout.
“I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on,” Zuckerberg wrote on Threads.
The two tech giants have been flirting with the possibility of having an MMA-style “cage match” since the end of June, and while talks stalled in July, they appeared to be reignited earlier this month.
However, Zuckerberg says that the recent remarks from Musk are nothing but smoke, as he’s continued to make offers to the Tesla CEO but has repeatedly been denied.
“I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity,” Zuckerberg wrote. White is the president of the UFC and has been working to try and organize the fight.
Zuckerberg continued, saying that “Elon won’t confirm a date” and continued to bring up excuses, saying that he needs surgery and even asking him for a “practice round in my backyard instead.”
“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously,” Zuckerberg concluded.
Musk has not responded to Zuckerberg’s latest comments, though he did post a screenshot of a text he sent to the Facebook founder, in which he appeared to suggest they meet for “a practice bout” on Monday.
Zuckerberg didn’t appear to be in on the idea of a practice fight between the two, telling Musk to “train on your own” and let him know when he’s ready.
The rivalry between the two has only intensified since Musk purchased Twitter, now known as X, late last year. Zuckerberg then re-stirred the pot when he released his own text-based app, Threads, earlier this summer.
Musk took shots at Zuckerberg for his latest social media platform, implying that he has a monopoly on the market.
“I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options,” Musk tweeted about Threads.
It was shortly after this tweet that a user mentioned Zuckerberg’s fighting abilities, to which Musk responded, “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” sparking the talks of a potential fight.
