After he and Meghan Markle took a step back from their roles as senior, working members of the royal family last March, The Duke of Sussex will add chief impact officer of BetterUp Inc., to his résumé. The Wall Street Journal reported that Prince Harry would be taking on a new role at the coaching and mental health app start-up.
Having been candid about his own struggles with mental health and being by his wife’s side while she’s faced mental health tribulations and suicidal thoughts, Price Harry told WSJ “I intend to help create impact in people's lives. Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-round better life."
Prince Harry also shared that he’s been using BetterUp’s resources for a number of months as well. He said, "I was matched with my coach who, quite frankly, is truly awesome and has always given me sound advice and a fresh perspective, which is so valuable."
Prince Harry met BetterUp’s CEO Alex Robichaux through a mutual friend last fall. On the app’s website, Harry wrote in a blog post, “I firmly believe that focusing on and prioritizing our mental fitness unlocks potential and opportunity that we never knew we had inside of us. As the Royal Marine Commandos say, 'It's a state of mind.' We all have it in us.
"Being attuned with your mind, and having a support structure around you, are critical to finding your own version of peak performance. What I've learned in my own life is the power of transforming pain into purpose."

He concludes, “As BetterUp's first Chief Impact Officer, my goal is to lift up critical dialogues around mental health, build supportive and compassionate communities, and foster an environment for honest and vulnerable conversations. And my hope is to help people develop their inner strength, resilience, and confidence."
