It's strange to think about, but Randy Moss played in as many Super Bowls as a member of the San Francisco 49ers as he did with the New England Patriots. Though he's most associated with the Vikings, Moss actually never reached the sport's highest stage during parts of eight seasons in Minnesota.
After splitting the 2010 season with the Patriots, Vikings and Tennessee Titans, Moss retired. However, after sitting out his age-34 campaign, the future Hall of Famer returned in 2011, inking a one-year deal to join Jim Harbaugh's 49ers.
On a team with Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham and Vernon Davis, Moss wasn't asked to be the team's No. 1 pass catcher. Nonetheless, he added some production to an offense led for much of the season by Colin Kapernick, hauling in 28 passes for 434 yards and three touchdowns.
That season, the 49ers would reach the Super Bowl, ultimately falling short in a 34-31 loss to Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens. Prior to catching five passes in Super Bowl XLVII, Moss famously declared that he was the greatest wide receiver in NFL history. He, of course, did this while representing the same team that Jerry Rice spent most of his career with.
Moss wasn't dominant in his season with the 49ers, but he was a part of a memorable team in what turned out to be the final season of his illustrious career. That said, we're willing to bet that you forgot that these five notable players had brief stints with the 49ers:
Chris Weinke

He didn't begin playing football collegiately until his age-24 season, after he decided to give up on a potential career in Major League Baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays. Eventually the ACC Player of the Year in 2000 with 33 passing touchdowns for Florida State, Weinke was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He got the chance to play in 15 games with the Panthers in his rookie season, but he tossed 11 touchdowns to just 19 interceptions, with the team going 1-14 in his starts. Weinke spent four years in Carolina before joining the 49ers ahead of the 2007 season. Already 35 by this time, Weinke was active on game day just twice in what turned out to be his final NFL season. In a start for the team in Week 17, Weinke completed 13 of 22 passes with a touchdown in a losing effort against the Cleveland Browns.
David Carr

To his credit, while things didn't ultimately work out as a starting quarterback in the league, Carr hung around in the NFL for a decade, the second half of which was as a backup. In 2010, Carr was the third-string option in San Francisco, behind Alex Smith and former Ohio State star Troy Smith. In his lone season with the 49ers, Carr completed five of 13 pass attempts, throwing one interception.
Brian Westbrook

In 2007, he was an All-Pro, rushing for 1,333 yards and catching 90 passes for 771 yards. 2007, though, proved to be Westbrook's final peak year, and the Eagles ultimately released him in March of 2010. Westbrook caught on with the 49ers for one last NFL season, serving as Frank Gore's backup. No longer wearing No. 36, Westbrook rushed for 340 yards and added 150 receiving yards in 2010.
Braylon Edwards

Following a season-and-a-half with the New York Jets, Edwards signed a one-year deal with the 49ers prior to the 2011 campaign. In his second-to-last NFL season, Edwards caught 15 passes for 181 yards in nine games as a 49er.
Nnamdi Asomougha

Between 2008 and 2010, the former first-round pick was twice selected as an All-Pro while playing for the Oakland Raiders. His stellar play earned him a five-year/$60 million free-agent deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, one that guaranteed him $25 million. Unfortunately for Asomugha, his performance in Philadelphia was so underwhelming that he was released after just two years. Now 32, Asomugha signed with the 49ers for the 2013 season, but appeared in just three games before being released.
