Aaron Rodgers rumors: Is it Broncos or bust for star QB?

Saying a team is a “quarterback away” more often than not is hyperbole. But in the case of the Denver Broncos, they might seriously be just a quarterback away from becoming a legitimate contender.

It should be exciting for them, then, that they seem like a likely destination for Aaron Rodgers.

The star quarterback is under contract for one more season with the Packers, and there are three possibilities on the table: retirement, a trade, or staying in Green Bay. At this point, retirement or a trade seems more likely than returning to the Packers.

Ever since last season, the Broncos have been linked to Rodgers. Boomer Esiason indicated Monday morning on WFAN that the Rodgers-Broncos connection is legit.

“He said he was going to try to do this as quickly as possible. And, really, again, everything I’ve read, everything I’ve seen, everybody I’ve talked to says that there’s one team that he would consider going to and that’s the Denver Broncos.”

This came as Esiason was saying a decision could be coming soon for Rodgers. The franchise tag deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, at which point the Packers will have to make a decision on star wideout Davante Adams. That’s a decision that could impact Rodgers’ chances of going back to Green Bay.

It's also worth mentioning that over the weekend, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported that Rodgers wants to land with either the Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers or Tennessee Titans. Further, the Packers have deals in place with each of those teams based on what Rodgers decides.

Should he land with the Broncos, Rodgers would have an impressive collection of offensive weapons between Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and Noah Fant. Denver hasn’t been able to get as much out of that group as they probably should, largely because they’ve trotted out Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock at quarterback the last couple of years.
