Each week Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, a feature that aims to reward women who have overcome a challenge and emerged stronger as a result. Each Badass Woman wins an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is featured on-air Fridays at 7:15 A.M. with Christine and Salt in the morning.
This week's Badass Woman of the Week is Dr. Christine Finck of Glastonbury, nominated by her husband John Laplante. John writes, "Chris is the epitome of badass! Just ONE of the MANY roles she fills would be a full-time job for most people. She’s not only a kickass wife and mom to 3 kids, she’s also the Surgeon-in-Chief of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Her position has her actively involved with all aspects of running the hospital on a daily basis and — despite maintaining a full clinical schedule — she operates on as many patients as most of her colleagues. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also a professor in the UConn medical school, where she runs the Finck Lab, working on recreating esophagus and lung tissue using stem-cells. In her ‘spare time’ she started a medical device company, having developed a new way of treating patients with esophageal injuries or birth defects to avoid harmful exposure to repeat anesthesia, which causes permanent damage in developing brains. Recently, she rekindled her love of horses and started taking lessons as a hunter/jumper." Check out Dr. Finck's interview with Christine and Salt below where she reveals yet another layer of her amazing personality — her fantastic sense of humor!
