This week’s Badass Woman of the Week honor goes to Cromwell High School nurse Leslie Knell, whose courage and compassion shine both at school and at home.
When her coworker, paraeducator Curtis, got caught up while trying to break up an altercation between two students, Leslie didn’t hesitate. She stepped in without a second thought, shielding him from further injury and placing herself in harm’s way. Thankfully, neither staff member was seriously hurt. Leslie even went the extra mile to recover personal belongings a student lost during the incident — making sure everyone involved was cared for.
Curtis nominated Leslie for the honor, saying her actions that day were nothing short of heroic. And Fran, his partner — herself a former Badass Woman of the Week — added, “I know a badass nurse when I see one.”
Beyond her role at school, Leslie’s life is full of joy and responsibility. She’s a proud mom to a kindergartener who keeps her busy from the moment she gets home, and her camera roll proves it — filled with photos of her son, her husband, and their dogs. She may not call herself a selfie queen, but her family calls her a hero every single day.
From protecting a coworker to caring for students — and balancing it all with life as a mom, wife, and dog lover — Leslie truly embodies what it means to be a Badass Woman of the Week.
