In 2020, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The journey through chemotherapy was a little rough, but by 2021, I was in remission. Fast forward to 2024 — I had lost 85 pounds (woo-hoo!) and was relishing in the joy of better health.

However, a routine dental cleaning with Nicole at Cromwell Dental last month became the turning point in my ongoing battle with lymphoma. As she was doing the cleaning, Nicole found a lump. She said, "that wasn't there six months ago" and then added, "we're stopping the cleaning" and proceeded to take me over to get panoramic x-rays done. Sure enough, there was a mass where there shouldn't be. She could have easily continued the cleaning and then suggested I get the lump checked out later, but nope — she took control of the situation. I can't tell you how safe and protected I felt at that moment knowing Nicole was looking out for me.

So after two biopsies, an MRI and PET scan it turns out that yes, the lymphoma is back. I am preparing to start chemo again, this time a little more aggressive but I'm up for the challenge. Reflecting on this whirlwind of events, I can't help but emphasize the importance of regular check-ups and familiar healthcare providers who truly know you. Don't skip those screenings! Nicole's intuition and attentiveness saved my life by catching the recurrence before it could wreak havoc. Nicole is my guardian angel and hero for sure!
