Every week, Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, celebrating women who've conquered challenges and emerged stronger. The honoree receives an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is showcased on-air Fridays at 7:15 AM with Christine and Salt.

Nyema Pinkney Cranford of Manchester is proof that no challenge is too big. After losing her sight in 2007 due to a rare medication side effect, she’s been unstoppable—pursuing her goals with determination and winning in her race category. On October 19, Nyema will run the 5K at the Hartford Marathon with her sister, Nikia Pinkney, as her guide, participating with Achilles International CT — an organization that empowers athletes of all abilities.

As part of the marathon’s Inspiration Team, Nyema will receive special recognition, but her true impact lies in her heart for others—leading fitness programs and volunteering with the Urban League of Greater Hartford. Nyema credits her strong family ties — which includes her husband, mom, sister and friends — for her optimistic outlook on life. She also shouts out her beloved sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, Epsilon Omicron Omega chapter, with lifting her up over the years. As for whether she'll wear pink and green in honor of her sorority sisters on race day, she tells Christine and Salt she'll rock the Hartford Marathon Foundation 5K blue race shirt with an AKA pin for good luck! Listen to Nyema's full interview below with Christine and Salt below.
