Farmington, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-In a wide-ranging one-hour radio interview, Republican Gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski said Connecticut needs to head in a new direction, helping those struggling, while also addressing the issue of transgender athletes participating in girls' sports.

"The Governor is boasting about a two-billion-dollar surplus which came from the federal government. That's ours as well and comes from federal taxes. A new report shows 126 thousand kids don't have enough food to eat. People are facing $4.50 a gallon gas prices, people can't heat their homes and people are moving out of Connecticut."

On transgender athletes competing in women's sports, Stefanowski said we should support kids in the gender they identify with.
He adds Boys and Girls leagues were set up for a reason, equity and  safety.

"How would you feel if your daughter played hockey and gets checked into the boards by a biological male. You've got to look at health and safety, treating people fairly. I don't think you can legislate that from a state level. It's up to the conferences, parents and communities how they want to deal with this."

Stefanowski also feels in challenging Governor Lamont, the narrative has changed the second time around. "Inflation is at a 40-year high. You've got the Governor's administration under an FBI grand Jury investigation. It's amazing that's not national attention. You've got the second highest taxes in Connecticut in the country. The highest utility costs in the continental United States. And the Governor who raised taxes 1.8 billion in his first year in office."
