18 catalytic converters stolen in Plainville

Plainville, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-The theft of 18 catalytic converters from the DATTCO bus lot of South Canal Street caused
school delays this morning, police report.

According to police, thieves cut through the fence and stole the converters from the gas-powered buses. A Dattco employee
discovered the thefts around five this morning.

DATTCO Vice President Bryony Chamberlain said the thefts caused about two-hour delays. She said fortunately the company
used spare buses to transport students. Normal bus service is anticipated the rest of the day, she said. Replacing the catalytic
converters will cost about $3 thousand dollars each.

"A lot of cost we're going to have to eat and gets fed back into the school system one way or the other. We've had kids delayed which impacts them and their families. No crime is victimless. It's impacted a lot of people today," she said.
