
Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - A group of firefighters from Connecticut will lend a hand to their brother and sister firefighters in Oregon that have been battling wildfires there.
The 19 members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew (CIFC), coordinated by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection left Tuesday from DEEP's Eastern District headquarters in Marlborough.
Commissioner Katie Dykes said "once again, the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew answers the call to assist those in other states in their time of need.”
The group is made up of six full-time DEEP employees from the Bureau of Natural Resources and the Bureau of Central Services, among other divisions.
The firefighters hail from a total of 16 towns in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
