BETHANY, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—A dirt bike driver died over Labor Day weekend after crashing into a U.S. Postal Service truck in the town of Bethany, according to Connecticut State Police.
Just before 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4, Mark Deangelis, 42, of Seymour, was traveling northbound on a Kawasaki dirt bike at a high speed on Downs Road, state police said.
As the USPS truck was exiting a private driveway at 378 Downs Road, police said Deangelis collided into the truck on the driver's side.
Deangelis was separated from the motorcycle and sustained serious, life-threatening wounds, troopers said.
Bethany EMS transported Deangelis to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
Deangelis' next of kin has been notified of his passing, state police said.
The driver of the USPS Truck--Jeraly Escamilla, 20, of New Haven-- had no apparent injuries, police stated.
This crash is one of two fatal accidents state troopers responded to over the holiday weekend.
