The latest update today from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of eastern Connecticut and parts of south central Connecticut in the category of "unusually dry".

Moderate drought still exists in portions of north central Connecticut and most of the immediate shoreline.

Most of Litchfield County remains in a severe drought.

Last week, Governor Lamont reduced the drought advisory for New London and Windham Counties to Stage 2, bringing all eight counties in the state to the Stage 2 level.

The heavy rain could make a further dent when the next report is released in a week.
