Police say a New Britain man stole a vehicle and careened around I-691 before crashing into a guardrail and taking off on foot into a Meriden neighborhood.

Wally Little, 23, was found hiding in a detached garage, and was later being held by Meriden police on $100,000 bail, facing a series of charges.

Before 8 am Thursday, state police say they received a series of 911 calls reporting an erratic driver. After colliding with the guardrail, the vehicle pulled off the highway into Meriden.

Meriden police say after an officer saw the damaged vehicle, then later made eye contact with the driver, the suspect took off on foot. The vehicle was later found behind a home on Liberty St.

State police, who happened to be training dogs in the area, joined Meriden police in the search for the suspect, during which three nearby schools were placed in lockdown. Drones were also used.

"We did eventually locate the suspect," says Meriden police Lt. Darrin McKay. "He was at a home on Sunset Ave. He had unlawfully entered into a detached garage... and he was hunkered down inside of a cabinet."

Little was arrested by Meriden police on a series of charges, including reckless operation of a motor vehicle, engaging in pursuit and Interfering with the police. He's also facing charges from the Connecticut State Police, including DUI, failure to maintain established lanes and operating without a license.

Police say Little was found wearing a GPS tracking device on an ankle, related to adult probation.
