Berlin, Conn./WTIC Radio - Eversource says it'll cost customers more to keep warm this winter.

The utility says the winter supply rate is expected to increase by 13% when compared to last year.

It says the Standard Service rate is usually higher at this time of year as a result of "regional supply constraints and market volatility."

The Standard Service rate changes twice a year, in January and July, said Eversource.

The price per kilowatt hour is expected to go up to 12.64 cents per kilowatt hour.

Last year is was 11.19 cents.

PURA, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, would have to sign off on the increase.

Eversource suggests customers can shop for rates at energizect.com.

The new rates would take effect January 1st.
