Meriden, Conn./WTIC Radio - The city of Meriden is mourning its former mayor.
Michael Rohde died on Sunday.
He was 80.
Rohde served as mayor from 2008 to 2013.
He served on the City Council for a quarter century.
Rohde had recently stepped down from the council, citing "serious physical health issues."
“Mike’s commitment to the City of Meriden was more than a role—it was a calling, and he
served with clarity, courage, and an unwavering belief in the power of local government to
change lives for the better,” said Sonya Jelks, City Council Majority Leader.
Mayor Kevin Scarpati said “his (Rohde's) passion for our residents and business community has helped shape Meriden into what it is today.
Rohde was key in getting the Meriden Flood Control Implementation Agency established in the city center.
The City Council will name Rohde's replacement when it meets this evening at 6:00.
