Meriden, Conn./WTIC Radio - Governor Lamont on Wednesday signed a bill aimed at offering some level of comfort to the families of fallen police officers.
He used the Connecticut Police Memorial in Meriden as a backdrop to his signing the Fallen Officer Fund bill into law.
"Maybe it's fitting we're here because our police show up to keep us safe in the most hellacious of circumstances", Lamont said
The law allows for families of officers killed in the line of duty a non-taxable lump sum of $100,000 and insurance coverage for up to five years.
The state of Connecticut has lost 157 officers in the line of service since 1833.
