New Haven, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-The Greater New Haven Clergy Association said it's siding with a Superior Court Judge who ruled that Acting Police Chief Renee Dominguez must vacate that position.

"We were successful yesterday (with the Judge's ruling). It's virtually impossible for the defendant to argue this point", said Association attorney Jerry Barber.

The Association said it will continue to mount counter legal challenges.

Further Barber said, "The defendant (Dominguez) has a right to appeal. We believe she can appeal this decision right out of office. This automatic stay should not extend her illegal usurpation of that office."

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said he plans to appeal the Judge's ruling. He nominated Dominguez for the permanent post, but she was rejected by the Board of Alders.
The city is also conducting a nationwide search for her replacement.
