
HAMDEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Hamden Police arrest a delivery driver in connection with a burglary.
Police say Adiel Viana-Ribeiro, 24, of Bridgeport, has been arrested after a series of burglary and attempted burglary reports Tuesday night.
Police responded to a home Tuesday night around 11:30 p.m. on Kimberly Road to respond to an attempted residential burglary. A female college student was in her house when someone attempted to forcibly break into the residence through a window. The suspect fled on foot after the student shined a flashlight toward the window. The suspect never gained access into the residence.
A short time later, Hamden Police Officers responded to a nearby residence on West Woods Road for a similar complaint. A female college student reported that a suspect entered an unsecure rear door while she was asleep. She was awoken by the individual standing at the foot of her bed. The suspect fled when she started to yell. No one was injured in either incident.
Hamden Police, with help from State Police, were able to track down Viana-Ribeiro as the suspect in the case. A pursuit began. The suspect fled from police and was apprehended with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police on Interstate 84 near Exit 16. Evidence was located in the vehicle.
Viana-Ribeiro has been charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, engaging police in pursuit, and reckless driving. He is due in Meriden Superior Court on December 29, 2021. Viana-Ribeiro is being held on a $50,000 bond.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Viana-Ribeiro delivers food and drives passengers for app-based service companies. He specifically targeted houses, where he previously made deliveries to females.
