HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—Prizes are now on the table for Hartford residents that get vaccinated at health department clinics that are being held starting this week, as the city continues to find more incentives for residents to get vaccinated.

The City of Hartford is offering residents who get vaccinated a chance to win a $1,000 debit card or one of five separate packs of four Six Flags season passes.

Starting this weekend, residents will be able to enter the drawing as they get the COVID-19 shot at the soccer field in Cronin Park on 490 Granby Street on Sundays or at the Health Department offices on 131 Coventry Street on Thursdays.

Both walk-up clinics will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. every week with all three COVID-19 vaccine options available.

"It is so important that we finish this job of protecting ourselves against the coronavirus. I know that folks want to be done with the pandemic, and I do too, but the truth is the pandemic is not done with us until we protect ourselves," Bronin said.

The city is struggling to get those under 45 vaccinated, Bronin said.

More than 90% of Hartford residents age 65 and older and over 65% of Hartford residents age 45 and older are vaccinated, according to Bronin.

"If you look at that 45 and under group, it's nowhere near where we need it to be," he said.

Bronin reminds residents that those who need a free ride to and from either clinic can schedule one by calling 3-1-1.

In order to be eligible for the prize drawing, residents will need to show identification and a piece of mail, both with a Hartford address, at one of the clinics.

Winners will be drawn in early July after the first round of clinics, city officials said.
