HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Hartford is using Earth Day to announce the launch of a new e-scooter program. LINK, which has fleets of scooters in more than 20 cities worldwide, is coming to Connecticut.

Officials say 250 silver and bright yellow scooters are being deployed across Hartford. Initially, the wheels will be available for use in the downtown area, with plans to expand coverage citywide in May, said officials.

To ride a LINK scooter, residents will be able to download the LINK mobile app from the iOS or Android app store and use the app to scan a scooter’s QR code.  LINK also has accommodations for riders without smartphones.  Rides cost $1 to unlock a scooter plus 36 cents per minute.  Hartford residents receiving local, state or federal assistance will qualify for a 70 percent discount under the “LINK-Up” program.

This comes about two years after a similar rental program with bikes pulled out of the city.
