Rocky Hill, Conn./WTIC Radio - The Connecticut Office of Inspector General has issued a report on an incident last January in which a Windor police officer discharged his firearm at a suspect.

It was January 30th that Officer Brandon Thomas was checking out a vehicle parked at a Windsor Street gas station whose license plate number came back registered to a different vehicle.

A foot chase ensued after two people exited the store.

Giovani Nunez ran off into Keney Park.

Thomas ordered Nunez to stop or he'd be tased.

However, the officer pulled and fired his duty weapon once instead of the taser.

The says the use of deadly force was not justified and a warrant for Officer Thomas' has been obtained, charging him with unlawful discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment.

In a statement, Windsor Police Chief Donald Melanson said "This was a mistake made in a high-stress, fast-evolving situation. While we fully respect the role and authority of the Inspector General, we believe the facts

in this case do not warrant an arrest or charges."
