Berlin, Conn./WTIC Radio - State police are charging a man in connection with the illegal storage of fireworks in his home.

The incident began back on February 2nd when police and EMS were called to the home of Richard Valuk, 47.

Valuk was taken the hospital that day for treatment.

Another adult in the home made the call. Police say there were three juveniles there at the time, as well.

It was during a preliminary investigation that Berlin police determined illegal commercial and consumer grade fireworks and explosives were being stored in the basement of the home and they notified state troopers for assistance.

Authorities communicated with Valuk over the course of several months, who indicated some of the fireworks were purchased in Pennsylvania.

Police say Valuk didn't have a license or permit to store, transport or use fireworks.

He was arrested last Friday and now faces a host of charges illegal possession of explosives, risk of injury, and illegal procurement/transport of explosives, among others.

Valuk's bond was set at $100,000.
