Tolland, Conn./WTIC Radio - A former funeral home operator already accused of ripping off customers is now facing additional charges.
State police say Philip Pietras, 51, is charged with over two dozen counts of intent to defraud, larceny, and embezzlement.
Investigators say they originally received a complaint about a discrepancy regarding a payment to Pietras Funeral Home in Coventry in October 2024.
Other clients accounts were audited, showing similar discrepancies, said police.
Troop C subsequently received numerous complaints from others, primarily from victims over the age of 60, who held accounts at Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 31 in all.
Losses totaled over $276,000.
Pietras turned himself in and was arraigned on Tuesday.
He is also facing charges in other towns, as well.
