Two years after Bristol police officers Dustin DeMonte and Alex Hamzy were ambushed, shot and killed, the deadly incident still stings the community.

Now, police are offering a new way for residents and others to share their grief: They can visit a new permanent memorial to the officers.

The display, positioned in the lobby at police headquarters, features two police cruiser doors. The doors were taken from a cruiser that became the center of an elaborate temporary memorial just after the shooting.
They still feature messages written by mourners.

Family members of DeMonte and Hamzy attended a dedication ceremony Friday morning.

“The door display will serve as a testament to our commitment as an agency to never forget the sacrifice that Dustin and Alex made on October 12, 2022,” said Bristol Police Chief Mark Morello.
