Berlin, Conn./WTIC Radio - Eversource customers will have to dig deeper into their wallets if the company's rate hike request is approved.
It is asking for a nearly 50-percent increase on the supply side beginning in January and running through June, citing increased costs globally and regionally.
In addition, natural gas prices have increased significantly due to demand.
That, the war in Ukraine and other global events are reasons for the requested increase, says Eversource.
The request to PURA, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, could see rates increase from 12.1-cents per kilowatt hour to a little more than 24-cents for customers that use 750 kilwatt hours.
That translates to about an $85 a month increase on such homes.
