Police in West Hartford are hoping an increased reward from the state of Connecticut will spark leads in their search for the hit-and-run driver who killed an elderly pedestrian.
Eugenia Yurovsky, 89, was using a walker to help her cross the intersection of Boulevard and Whiting Lane when she was struck and killed by an SUV last Dec. 20. Police say the driver left the scene.
West Hartford police say Gov. Ned Lamont has secured $25,000 to contribute to the reward, initially offered by Rotary Club of West Hartford, which now totals $26,000.
The anonymous tip line for West Hartford police is (860) 570-8969. Police Chief Vernon Riddick also called for the driver to turn themselves in before officers find them.
"You have that burden that's on you," says Riddick. "You have those feelings of wondering, 'When is it going to happen? Is it going to happen?' Did you get away with something? Maybe in the short term, you may feel that, but alleviate that burden. Take away that pressure. Come speak to us. Give your side of the story."
