Storrs, Conn./WTIC Radio - UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma is adding one of his legendary former players to his coaching staff.
The university is announcing that Bloomfield native Nykesha Sales is joining the staff as an assistant coach.
Sales was the school's all-time leading scorer at the time she graduated in 1998.
She currently ranks seventh on the scoring list.
Sales went on to play nine seasons in the WNBA, for the Orlando Miracle/Connecticut Sun franchise, averaging over 14 points per game, and was a 7-time All-Star.
“Bringing Nykesha back to UConn is absolutely the best decision that we could make,” Auriemma said.
“Returning to UConn is a full-circle moment for me,” Sales said. “I’m incredibly grateful to Coach, CD, Mo and Tonya for welcoming me back to Storrs with open arms. Connecticut is home and where it all started."
Sales has previously coached at UCF and Georgia.
