Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Amid arrests and deportations that have taken place in other parts of the country, the state Department of Education is out with guidance on how to deal with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents that may show up at schools.
Education officials are being advised to update procedures for grade K-through-12 schools.
Access to school grounds is typically restricted during the academic day.
But the Trump administration lifted rules barring ICE personnel from areas like schools, hospitals and churches.
The guidance includes adhering to district procedures, as well as requesting information like an agent's identifiction, name, badge or phone number, and business card.
It also advises schools to designate a point person for requests and agent visits, and to also ask the agent if they have a warrant.
In a statement, Governor Lamont says it's important "students and families to feel welcome and protected by their schools."
